MUCOBADI is reaffirming its commitment to ending HIV as a public health concern in Uganda by actively participating in the 25th International AIDS Conference in Munich, Germany. This prestigious conference gathers individuals living with, affected by, and working on HIV to share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned to address HIV on a global scale, improve health outcomes for all, and remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS. The conference theme, “Put People First,” emphasizes the importance of engaging those living with HIV and focusing on solutions from the perspectives of those most impacted.

Representing MUCOBADI: Gerald Kasula and the ICARE Project

MUCOBADI was proudly represented by Gerald Kasula, the Chief of Party for our ICARE Project. ICARE is dedicated to addressing critical barriers to HIV service access, uptake, adherence, and scale-up. It provides high-impact HIV and violence prevention services to improve health and social well-being outcomes. The project targets 50,535 orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), with 48,285 receiving comprehensive services and 2,250 receiving preventive services, particularly in Mukono District.

Advancing Health Equity and Building Community Capacity

ICARE supports PEPFAR’s 5×3 strategy to advance health equity by targeting specific subpopulations with a continuum of services. The project also strengthens the sustainability of the HIV response by building a robust community-led response system. This is achieved by upscaling the capacity of persons living with HIV (PLHIV) networks and community health workers, engaging in health accountability efforts, leveraging existing PEPFAR and non-PEPFAR health accountability mechanisms, and enhancing partnerships with clinical partners, economic growth partners, other civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector.

Looking Ahead

MUCOBADI’s participation in the 25th International AIDS Conference reinforces our unwavering dedication to ending HIV in Uganda. By sharing our experiences and learning from others, we continue to strengthen our efforts to improve health outcomes and support vulnerable populations.
