Last week, MUCOBADI made a bold stand against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Moroto District, Northern Uganda. The campaign, led by the SHELEADS Project, was part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global effort to end violence against women and girls.
Marching for Change
The event kicked off with an energetic march through Moroto Town. People from all walks of life—community members, leaders, and young advocates—joined together, sharing a clear message: Girls and young women deserve a seat at the decision-making table. The streets buzzed with chants, banners, and excitement as everyone pushed for change.
What’s the Focus?
This year’s theme, “Empowering futures through collaborative action and inclusive policies for girls and young women,” highlighted the need for real, practical steps to improve the lives of young women. The campaign zeroed in on key areas where policies can make a difference:
- The Employment Act: Ensuring workplaces are safe and welcoming for young women, without fear of harassment or discrimination.
- The Education Policy: Making sure girls get access to education and breaking barriers like early marriage and violence in schools.
- The Marriage Bill and Succession Act: Protecting the rights of girls and women in marriage and inheritance to ensure fairness and equality.
Teamwork Matters
The campaign showed the power of working together. It brought together local leaders, policymakers, and everyday people to create a united front against GBV. Most importantly, it put girls and young women at the center of the conversation, making sure their voices were heard.
What’s Next?
The Moroto campaign wasn’t just a one-off event; it was a powerful reminder that change is possible when we work together. As the 16 Days of Activism continues, MUCOBADI stays committed to empowering girls and young women to lead safer, brighter lives.
Let’s keep the momentum going and turn these conversations into lasting change.
